An endurance championship has been the most challenging of my short career. It looks easy on paper securing a few results and banking the points to have more then your opposition at years end. There are so many variables from the weather, mechanical reliability and not to forget the 60 odd other cars on track!
We had a tough start to the season which didn’t reflect our pace and abilities as a team.
As the year played out we didn’t let this affect us and continued to look forward to our next opportunity.
We had a great run of form that’s set up our season. Securing victory at the 6 hours of Paul Ricard was a turning point in the season, then the win at the 24 hours of Spa took it to another level. We knew the final race would be very difficult weighing up the risk and reward of every tactical decision and on track move. In the end we fought to the very end to secure the big prize of a 2016 Endurance Championship.
The feeling of this significant milestone is indescribable as it hasn’t quite yet sunk in. We were not gifted this championship and this makes it even more satisfying. After 2 rounds our championship hopes looked completely over, but my team mates Marco and Vadim along with Kessel Racing completed an amazing run of form over 30 hours of racing. For this to unfold has been quite extraordinary and I’m very privileged to be part of a special Motorsport story.
The racing season however is far from over, as we turn our attention back home to the Australian Endurance Championship with the next round taking us to Hampton Downs in New Zealand.
Thank you sincerely for your ongoing support, it is wonderful to share this victory
